Why Tom’s of Maine? Well first of all, when I called their information line to check the ingredients in their products, the woman on the phone was so, so lovely. She was more than happy to answer my endless list of questions about food allergies, how they sourced their ingredients, as well my curiosity around their vegan, cruelty free labeling.

It should be noted that I get commissions for purchases made through links in this post. Thank you so much for reading, I hope your kidlet(s) enjoy this product as much as we do. This post contains links, IF you prefer amazon – click here please 🙂

Some of the questions I asked…

“Is there a potential for cross contamination of peanuts or milk?”

Answer – no.

“The container says vegan but I want to double check that the facility where the “Mild Fruit” Flavour Toddler Toothpaste is packaged contains absolutely no dairy, including shared lines.”

Answer – I was reassured that this product is “SosiSafe.” Meaning for us that there are NO peanut OR milk ingredients but also “poison free” as well. I consider “poison free” to be products that contain ingredients that I can actually read or have easily explained to me without breaking out my ancient OAC Chemistry textbook. And for those who sat through that year with me, it was not my strongest subject (understatement!)

Why Fluoride Free Toothpaste for Toddlers?

Tom’s of Maine Toddler Toothpaste is fluoride-free which is an important part of my decision making. After reading countless articles and having discussions with our dentist, we decided to stay fluoride free. Children often swallow toothpaste and this can increase their risk of dental fluorosis. Dental fluorosis is a change in the appearance of teeth. It is caused when higher than optimal amounts of fluoride are ingested in early childhood. In its mildest and most common form, it affects the look of the tooth with small white specks appearing on a child’s teeth. [1]

Children before the age of 3 need only use a toothbrush with water unless they have been identified at risk. We chose to add Tom’s of Maine Toddler Training Toothpaste to our teeth-brushing routine since it is all natural and I feel comfortable with them having a pea sized amount each day.

Another aspect I wanted to stear clear from was artificial colours, dyes, preservatives or flavours. If we keep our meals clean, I think we should hold our toothpaste up to the same standards.
